ForLinux certify more Linux experts

July 2009 saw the successful launch of ForLinux’s first LPI Level II certification course since the release of the new objectives.  At the end of the 7 training days, the external delegates had successfully achieved 100% pass rate.

Release date: 24th August 2009

The LPI introduced new objectives across their certification programme in April this year, and this was the first Level II course ForLinux  have run in the UK since.  The course was attended by Ogonna Iwunze, Adrian Jones and John Simmonds all of whom use Linux in a professional capacity as part of their respective IT jobs in both the public and private sector.

Introduction of new objectives.
The introduction of the new objectives was well received by the delegates, who commented that the course and the objectives had been very relevant to their everyday use of Linux.

“I found what I’ve learnt very practical and relevant to my line of work. Taking part in this course has helped me fill up some of the gaps in my Sys Admin knowledge” Ogonna Iwunze

“I can honestly say each objective that was covered has widened my imagination and ability in regards to what my everyday Linux will now involve.” John Simmonds

ForLinux training style.
The LPIC II course was run by ForLinux trainer, Andy Goldschmidt, with a total of seven days classroom-based training, which were delivered over a three week period.  Andy said “We have built the course around the new objectives, ensuring that we use the right mix of lecturing and practical application, in order to accommodate the various learning styles of our delegates”.

John Simmonds commented “The material was presented in a suitable format, appropriate lab exercises were provided, timetable was both flexible and organised. The tutor had the time and patience to guide you to the answer you were seeking.”

The course was delivered from ForLinux’s custom-built training suite, where the exams were also completed, as the training centre is also a Pearson View Accredited testing station. The facility has been designed to provide delegates with a comfortable and productive learning environment.
“..a clean, modern air con environment with fast and up to date computing facilities all set up in a quiet environment that accelerates potential learning.” John Simmonds

Benefits of training.
There can be no doubt that the current economic climate has impacted on training figures  across the UK.  However, as Linux jobs continue to rise across the UK, people are keen to validate their skills in order to  gain a competitive edge over the increasing competition.

There was a definite feeling among the ForLinux delegates that this course was an investment for the future. John Simmonds said “Ultimately, it (the training course) will provide unquestionable proof to my present manager and future managers that I’m a wise investment”.
Ogonna Lwunze also felt this course would benefit his career options, adding “It certainly enhances my prospects for future employment”

The LPI programme provides a clear, structured progression path allowing the independent verification of Linux skills.  Due to the vendor-neutral nature  of the LPI programme, delegates have the opportunity to verify their Linux skills across a wide foundation without limiting themselves to a single distribution in a time when flexible and transferable skills are more important than ever.

Xen solution meets e-commerce demand

“A lot of hosting companies talk about 99.999% SLA, this means nothing if their support fails to deliver but with ForLinux’s support you know you’re in good hands. I’ve just checked one of our older servers that’s due to be replaced this year, it’s uptime is 902 Days! Needless to say ForLinux will be handling the upgrade.” Ashley Peake, Technical Director, Rapid Web Ltd.

Proactive monitoring service is crucial

“The proactive monitoring service that ForLinux provide is crucial to our business. When a problem occurs, the ForLinux team ring us with a potential solution, which they are ready to work on straight away”. Sam Phillips, Technical Director, Setfire Media.

“The level of support ForLinux offer is very high”

“The ForLinux team are very knowledgeable and there is always someone who can deal with the problems and errors we incur. I wouldn’t dream of hosting my dedicated server alone, without that extra support”. Chris Chaplow, Managing Director, Andalucia.com

“ForLinux are a world apart”

“Compared to other hosting and support companies we have dealt with, ForLinux are a world apart. In our experience the level of service provided by ForLinux is very high”. Alan Taylor, Managing Director, Blue Chip Vacations

Understanding “Support”

“Thanks for your help. If only all the companies we deal with understood what “support” means as well as you do.” – Mike Busuttili, Webmaster, Eaton Publications.

“Five year partnership speaks for itself”

“They’re very good at being proactive rather than reactive. The five years of partnership pretty much speaks for itself. And it has been improving all the time, so satisfaction levels are still high. The price is surprisingly good as well for the kind of industry they’re in, so that’s another plus point. ” Danny Ramdenee, Head of IT, Insurancewide

“Application uptime is above 99.98%”

“The ForLinux organisation appears the perfect size to perform its function well, it is large enough not be reliant on one or two people but small enough to ensure that, as the customer, you know the technical staff and they know you. I have great confidence in the technical competence of the ForLinux team.” – John Latham, Managing Director, Cognovi.

“Customer service is phenomenal”

“I respect the service that the company provide & it is nice to finally find a hosting company that operates in the same way as we do, in terms of ethos. It sounds like a cliché but the Customer service really is phenomenal!” – Stafford Sumner, Managing Director, Jarrang.
