Cognovi is a Dublin-based software development company specialising in the design and development of digital interactive TV and mobile services. Cognovi are the preferred technical supplier to the Looking Local project, owned and managed by Kirklees Council.

The availability of our applications has significantly improved since our hosting moved to ForLinux, due to a combination of careful architecture decisions, software component selection, data centre choice and highly responsive operational support. Where we have needed to make difficult decisions on software selection, ForLinux have proven a steady partner, able to stand by choices which make their job more challenging in order to achieve a particular customer objective.
Application uptime since re-hosting is above 99.98%, with a couple of data centre network outages flagged in advance or detected and resolved promptly. We employ third party monitoring systems to track uptime and detect outage, but this has proved largely unnecessary since a ForLinux specialist is usually speaking with me before the monitors are triggered.
The ForLinux organisation appears the perfect size to perform its function well, it is large enough not be reliant on one or two people but small enough to ensure that, as the customer, you know the technical staff and they know you. The ticketing systems enable rather than obstruct the rapid resolution of an issue, which is testament to the effectiveness of the support processes. Tickets are usually resolved within a few minutes, even for non-critical issues, and I have great confidence in the technical competence of the ForLinux team.
There are only so many hours in a week and the less time I have to spend on our IT infrastructure, the more time I can focus on my customer’s business. Since we started hosting with ForLinux, the time I spend on infrastructure issues has been reduced to almost zero.”
ForLinux have provided hosting and support of the project’s Linux servers since December 2008.
